Picture email vs. Text email
We use the word "email" in an ambiguous way to cover two different things. It would be simpler to understand ourselves if we used the expression "picture email" when we talked about email that could include embedded pictures, and the expression "text email" when we talked about email that could handle text messages only. If you want to send pictures in your email, then both the sender and the receiver must use "picture email" programs. If either the sender or receiver has only a "text email" program then it is not possible to use picture email and you can only communicate with each other by text email.
